Matthew Bourne's Nutcracker!
Students from John Beddoes performed at the Wales Millenium Centre in Cardiff on Thursday 17th November 2011.
After an overnight stay at the Urdd sleepover, 33 pupils from John Beddoes School and Gladestry C in W School had a tour of the Donald Gordon Stage at the Millenium Centre.
The tour and performance was the culmination of a 3 month long project.
The students performed the Curtain Raiser to The Nutcracker, using Tchaikovsky's score, combined with wonderful sets and costumes.
The technical rehearsal
The technical rehearsal, with costumes and lighting effects, was watched by the full company and Matthew Bourne came on stage to congratulate the performers on their efforts!
Curtains up!
Matthew Bourne introduced the project before the performance proper, and the 1800 plus audience were enthralled by the seven minute performance given by the students.
This was the first time that most of the students had performed on such a vast stage. Their enthusiasm, energy and professionalism was apparent to all - the applause at the end of their section was deafening... and thoroughly deserved!
For all those who were there on the night, and for those who watched the live stream, it was a night to remember!
