Marking Policy

Exercise books and folders are marked regularly to ensure proper recording of subject matter. This may take the form of a superficial check that homework and class work has been completed. Highlighted pieces of work and assessments receive a full check and comment. Self evaluation and peer marking is also used.

Marks out of 10 are given for written work:

  • 4-6 satisfactory
  • 7-8 good
  • 9-10 excellent

Students record marks of significance also in their homework diary (the 'How am I doing in geography' sheet) to inform them and parents of their progress. Books and assessments are usually taken to parents evening to show students progress.

Marks recorded are summative, indicating ability to complete work neatly, level of understanding and level achieved but a formative comment should be given and pupils will comment on how they could improve as well.

Unfinished work is noted. Students should complete it by the next lesson of they are invited to complete the work during lunch time support sessions.
