Key Stage 3 English
What do we study and why do we study English?
In English, our aims are to encourage all students to become proficient, confident and independent in the areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. All subject are dependent on English to a varying degree because it is trough language that students can access other areas of the curriculum. Skill and sensitivity in the use of language has vital importance at Key STage 3 and beyond, in society and in our relationships with others. Additionally, by encouraging a life long interest in literature in YEars 7,8 and 9 we hope to lay foundations of good practice for the future and prepare our students to take a positive role in life at school and in the wider community.
In addition, students are offered opportunities whenever possible to access ICT and library resources, texts with a Welsh dimension/relevance and creative writing competitions.
We are aware that every child is entitles to access the full learning curriculum at a level where they can benefit, enjoy and interact with what is studied. We take into account individual capabilities by target setting, adapting our resources and assessments and through students groupings.
