History in Year 7
During Year 7, you will learn some ne skills and gain an understanding of some topics.
What is History? The skills of History - questions, enquiry, evidence, time, interpretation, key concepts.
The Middle Ages (Britain from about 1000 to 1500)
- Wales and England in 1000
- The Norman Conquest - 1066
- Castles
- What it was like to live in the Middle Ages - rich and poor, work,homes, entertainment, food
- Why the Church was so important
- Holy Wars - the Crusades
- The Black Death
History in Year 8
In Year 8, you will continue to use the skills you developed in YEar 7 (questions/enquiry, evidence, interpretations, key concepts etc) but also learn about new skills, such as bias, fact and opinion. You will learn the following topics:
- The Tudors, especially Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I
- Life in Tudor Wales and England
- The Renaissance - new ideas
- The Reformation - changes in religion
- The Stuart Kings - James I and Charles I
- The Gunpowder Plot - what really happened
- The Civil War
- Plague and Fire
History in Year 9
In year 9, you will develop the skills of Years 7 & 8 an also learn about propaganda - political advertising. You will learn about the following topics:
Britain in the Industrial Revolution
- Life before the Industrial REvolution
- THe Industrial Revolution - the start of factories
- How Wales and Britain changed because of the Industrial Revolution - population growth, towns, farming, work, health
- Merthyr Tydfil - a major industrial town
- How the lives of people in Wales and Britain change - living conditions, health, food, leisure and entertainment
- How Britain became Great
- The abolition of slavery
The First World War
The Second World War
- The Holocaust
