Key Stage 3 Mathematics
We would like to remind you of what the mathematics department intends to offer this year.
Lessons
In years 7, 8 and 9 we follow the IMPACT scheme from Heinemann. We also sue ICT and investigations.
Homework
You can always help by giving you child extra problems or mental maths questions whenever you can. All students still need to know their times tables. There are lots of websites that do support mathematics.
Year 7 students will be given a homework sheet most weeks.
YEar 8 & 9 students will be loaned a booklet which contains all their homework sheets for the year. The booklet should be returned at the end of the year.
Please check homework diaries for incomplete work and to see if your child is entering the work. If you are concerned that we are not setting any please contact me.
Assessment
In class most of the work will be marked by the students as we work together the answers. We assess progress by four methods:
- Homework
- Testing (after every chapter in year 7, 8 & 9, less frequently in years 10 & 11)
- Teacher professional judgment of whether students have understood a topic during a lesson
- End of year examinations
We can repot to you at any time based on these assessments what level your child is working at as well as the progress made.
Equipment
We expect students to be prepared for lessons with the necessary equipment. This includes a calculator. We sell all the required equipment ranging from pencils, protractors, sharpeners, erasers, rulers (all 10p) to calculators at £5. We have a variety of pens from 10p to £1.
Contact
If there are any issues you wish to discuss, please contact me. We will be writing both positive and negative comments in your child's homework diary. Please feel free to use these to pass on any information or opinions (perhaps adding some comments about the usefulness of these notes)
